Chelsea six points behind City after Wolves draw

Chelsea’s bad run continued as they dropped more points – leaving them six behind leaders Manchester City.

The Premier League rejected a request from Chelsea for the postponement of the match at Molineux in view of the Covid-19 epidemic, plus injuries, in the camp of the Blues.

Boss Thomas Tuchel only named six substitutes – including just four outfielders – and was again without forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner as well as Callum Hudson-Odoi, all of whom are self-isolating after recently testing positive for the virus.

With Kai Havertz also absent, Chelsea were again without a recognized striker and Christian Pulisic led his attack.

Pulisic had his best chance of the game but was refused by goalkeeper Jose Sa after being put in by Marcos Alonso with 12 minutes remaining.

Wolves believed they had taken the lead in the first half when Daniel Podence scored at the far post after Raul Jimenez failed to meet Romaine Saiss’ ball from the left.

However, VAR established that Jimenez was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
