In a very atypical moment, Justin Simmons lost control. In the Denver Broncos Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, Simmons let his mouth take over after the whistle as he was penalized for taunting, giving the opponent an extra 15 yards.
The NFL didn’t like that, fining Simmons $10,609 for his unsportsmanlike penalty, according to 9NEWS“Mike Klis.
This play was not all she had written for veteran safety, however. Trailing 7-0, Simmons would completely redeem himself on that same drive, intercepting a Trevor Lawrence pass in the end zone and wiping Jacksonville’s surefire points off the board.
At Kareem Jackson’s Mic Up segment, Simmons could be heard on the sideline saying to his teammates, in celebration, “I owed you all.”
Simmons finished the day with five tackles (three solo) and that pick. Lawrence was limited to a paltry 133 yards and two interceptions – the third-lowest mark of the young QB’s career.
Simmons’ season hasn’t been great. He suffered a quad injury in the season opener and missed the following month of football on injured reserve.

Since his return, Simmons has been lacking in the high-impact games department, but he made up for it with flying colors in London. It’s one thing to withdraw a pass. It’s another thing to do it in the end zone.
Simmons and quarterback Russell Wilson preach “unshakable beliefto their Broncos teammates in hopes of galvanizing the team for a stretch run out. At 3-5, it won’t be easy.
The Broncos have a little wiggle room, but it’s very slim. Anything more than three more losses and Denver knocks itself out of playoff contention, in all likelihood.
