Here’s what’s happening during March Break in London, Ontario. – London

City of London, Ont., officials hope residents won’t hesitate to take a staycation during March Break.

As well as a burst of spring weather forecasts arriving this week, a variety of family-friendly options are also on offer across London.

From Monday to Thursday, free indoor ice skating sessions will be offered at Bostwick Arena, Carling Arena and Kinsmen Arena.

More options are available in even more arenas over the weekend, though fees for this set of indoor ice skating sessions range from free to $4.50. A complete list is available from the city Play Your Way online portal.

Others who still fancy a taste of winter activities will be relieved to know that Boler Mountain remains open for skiing and snowboarding. In a message to Boler Mountain Facebook accountCanada’s southernmost ski resort says it has “a good base with 15/15 runs and fully open tubing.”

A full list of all the activities offered by the city over the weekend, including roller skating at the North London Optimist Community Center and pickleball at the Byron Optimist Community Centre, is also available at London’s Play Your Way online portal.

London City Center and Old East Village have also planned their own series of local adventures, all of which can be found on Tourism London’s central area events webpage.

This includes Monday evening Comic Jam at the TAP Center for Creativityas good as Forest City Maple Trail take place throughout the city center throughout the week.

Tourism London also hopes residents will take advantage of their ongoing Stay A Little Longer scheme.

“Book a minimum two-night stay at a participating hotel and we’ll give you a $100 VISA card to use,” said Natalie Wakabayashi, director of culture and entertainment.

“And you can submit your expenses, in terms of accommodation costs, for a tax credit when you do your taxes.”

A similar program is also offered through the Ontario Provincial Hospitality Tax Credit, which allows residents to claim up to 20% of eligible accommodation expenses when filing the tax return and benefits for individuals.

“I think over the past two years we’ve learned that we deserve it. We’ve been through a lot as a community,” Wakabayashi added.

The London Public Library also offers a range of literary activities, including free ‘Discovery Bags’ which offer home-based activities for families. Other Events, can be found on the library websiteinclude a virtual dig of fossils, various stories, painting evenings and family anecdotes.

Families hoping to enjoy this week’s sunshine will want to take advantage of London List of Ecologically Significant Areas and find out why it’s called The Forest City.
