Jorginho offered Manchester United a goal but redeemed the equalizer with a penalty to earn Chelsea a point at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea dominated the game and Antonio Rudiger hit the United bar with a long-range strike in a one-sided first half.
However, they fell behind five minutes after the break.
After a free kick from Chelsea, Bruno Fernandes broke free from the edge of his own penalty area and Jorginhio, near the halfway line, poorly controlled the ball, allowing Jadon Sancho to pass on goal and pass Edouard Mendy .
However, the Blues received their own gift when Aaron Wan-Bissaka caught Thiago Silva as he was attempting to clear a corner, and Jorginho scored with a trademark free kick.
Chelsea continued to advance and striker Romelu Lukaku returned to action after injury, coming in as a late substitute, but they couldn’t find a winner.
Another incident, this time from Mendy, saw Fred put United back into the lead.
But Fred obediently shot Mendy after the Chelsea keeper’s pass attempt from behind fell directly on him.
And in added time, Rudiger missed a glorious opportunity by taking Christian Pulisic’s cross over the bar.
The result leaves Chelsea one point behind Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
