Kiwi Royal fanatics camp out on The Mall, London

Two royal superfans from Tauranga have secured pride of place on The Mall for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Friends Suzanna Litten and Shay Ridley pitched their tent this afternoon as anticipation grew ahead of the bumper four-day weekend.

“We can’t believe it,” Litten told 1News.

“We had to get on a train, a few buses, a big sweaty walk with our big sleeping bags and the tent we only found this morning.”

The couple set up near the entrance to Buckingham Palace, a few meters from the stage set up for the Platinum Party, headlined by big stars like Ed Sheeran, Diana Ross and Elton John.

They are not phased by the weekend forecast of heavy rain showers, instead taking advantage of every moment of the historic occasion.

“We have always been royalists, like our grandmothers and mothers are actually royalists, so we have always been royalists.”

Their presence has aroused the interest of those who settle nearby and many international media.

“We are the only Kiwis. Everyone keeps taking pictures of us,” Ridley said.

“When we say ‘we’re from New Zealand’ people are like ‘Oh my God’,” she added.

“We have Americans, English but no New Zealanders here yet, we are the first.”

Devoted royalists say they are hoping to get a royal wave from the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.

“She’s just elegant,” they say of the Duchess.
