New ‘unreal’ £12m star transfer target at London Stadium – GiveMeSport

West Ham United are ‘on the lookout’ for defenders after being linked with a move for Sheffield United’s John Egan, reporter claims DeanJones.

The 29-year-old has reportedly popped up on the Hammers’ radar in recent weeks as they already put plans in place to strengthen their backline in the January window.

What’s the latest on Egan?

A recent report from The sun claims West Ham are plotting a swoop for Egan over the winter after manager David Moyes was pushed back in his bid to bring him into the club over the summer.

It is claimed the capital club will have to shell out £12million to secure the Republic of Ireland international’s signature, despite turning 30 next month.

The Sheffield United hierarchy may be willing to strike a deal for Egan given his contract has just 18 months left to run, and the player may be tempted by the prospect of a return to the Premier League.

The arrival of the versatile centre-back should allow Craig Dawson to finally leave West Ham, who are eager to return to the Midlands for family reasons.

Moyes’ charges were supposedly demanding around £7million for Dawson in the previous window, but is expected to drop that figure after entering the final year of his existing deal.

What did Jones say about Egan?

Jones revealed his ‘main surprise’ at speculation that West Ham failed to make a formal offer for Egan over the summer, despite the core of the defense being a clear weakness.

In an interview with GiveMeSport he said: “My The main surprise is that he’s not a guy they’ve really considered all summer.

“So obviously we know they’re looking for future defenders, and there was probably another signing potentially on the cards that they could have made in that area.”

Would Egan be a good recruit?

Egan has a decent amount of Premier League experience under his belt after turning out 67 times for the Blades during their two-year stay in the top flight.

And the 6-foot ace has continued to excel since returning to the Championship, posting impressive under numbers this season which has earned him the tagged “unreal”.

According Who scoredEgan improved his teammate’s clearance and block counts while on duty in the league, averaging 4.3 and 0.8 per game respectively, while ranking third in long balls ( 3.9).

It remains to be seen if West Ham actually pursue their interest in Egan with a bid this time around, but it could be a shrewd buy by Moyes and co.
