Once again, December has been a long and forgiving month, so we suppose Maybe now is a good time to start thinking about that annual January detox – consider regaining that physical shape by hitting the gym and cutting back on pints, heavy food, and countless bottles of wine. And while we love a good pub, there is plenty to do in the capital that doesn’t involve having an alcoholic drink in hand. Promise. 1. Explore London’s iconic landmarks from the water

London is famous for its waterways, and some of the city’s best views come from the network of canals, reservoirs, and * ahem * of a certain river running through it. One of the best ways to see the capital’s landmarks is to board one of the twenty or so “Uber” boats that sail down the Thames from Putney to Woolwich. Stops along the way include Battersea Power Station, Westminster, London Bridge, Greenwich and North Greenwich, from where you can take the Emirates Air Line and cross the river to Royal Wharf. The panoramic views of the London skyline from here are quite fantastic, and you can spot the O2 Arena, Walkie Talkie, and Stratford’s winding ArcelorMittal Orbit from 300 feet in the air.

Speaking of ArcelorMittal’s orbit, did you know that it is the tallest sculpture in the UK and is home to the longest and tallest tunnel slide in the world? ! Designed by artist Carsten Höller, this breathtaking activity will give you the chance to launch yourself down a 178-meter-high toboggan at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour! The ride itself will take around 40 seconds, and 12 twists and turns will add a bit more drama to your descent along the way. During the summer months, you can also sometimes abseil down this unique structure – for those who prefer to keep their heart rate at a slightly more normal rate, you can simply see the city from the observation deck at the top. . 3. Browse the city’s cafes

It was a no-brainer on the best alcohol-free things to do in London – because, let’s face it, we all have to quench our thirst at some point. Our beloved city is full of atmospheric spots and nothing like a cup of tea to help you recharge your batteries. One of our favorites is Fork Deli, a lovely little place run by friendly owners Jess and James on Marchmont Street in Bloomsbury. Along with some of the best cafes in the center, they also serve nasty toast, paninis, and even charcuterie boards – fancy! Fork doubles as a wine bar, so when you’re done Dry January, you can indulge in as many decanters of wine as you want. They also offer weekly yoga.

4. Eat your way at one of London’s many food markets.

Our beloved capital has its fair share of food markets, and there is nothing better than strolling through one of the many that are here and enjoying some delicious food. An obvious choice here is Borough Market, which is one of the largest in the city and has had a nondescript market on the same site since the early 12th century. Home to the proverbial who’s who of gourmet outlets, there’s something for everyone here with plenty of gluten-free, dairy and meat-free options on tap – be sure to loosen your belt and bring enough cash. ! Other places in town include Hackney’s Borough Market, Bermondsey’s Maltby Street Market, and Mercato Metrapolitano at Elephant and Castle.

5. Catch a blockbuster or two at the movies

Ah, January – the weather is gloomy, the temperature is often Baltic, and it gets dark by 4pm. What better time of year then to hit your local multiplex and catch up with the latest blockbuster? Spider-Man: No Path Home is already breaking box office records and is among the top reviews of any comic book movie. The fifth in the series, this new installment brings back original alumni Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette to fight the knife-wielding Ghostface. And the best thing of all? The storytelling experience is designed to put you in the shoes of the people who were actually on the Titanic, immersing you in their worlds with a collection of handwritten letters, memorabilia, personal effects and photographs, some telling tales of heroic deeds. It will take place over the next few months at Dock X, a stone’s throw from the Printworks super-club.

8. Try a fun new exercise class.

This beautifully immersive exhibit just off Shoreditch’s Commercial Street will make you feel like you’ve fallen through a frame into a whole new reality – one painted by Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. You will see the work of the famous painter invade the walls and modify your environment through the lenses of dozens of projectors, hyper-realistic VR headsets – or a mixture of the two! As well as seeing all of the artist’s intricate paintings, you’ll also have the chance to color some of your own in the Creative Painting Room. Without doubt, the main dish is the finale, when you are immersed in a cathedral of light, color and sound, as 360-degree projections illuminate Van Gogh’s masterpieces on the walls and ceiling of this historic site. You can even follow a route that includes all the sights of “Muggle London” from the Harry potter film series – ‘Riddikulus!
