The North Devon Gymnastics Club made an impression this year at the London Festival of Gymnastics in Brentwood with a team of 28 competitors performing brilliantly in an inspiring environment.
The festival is usually held every year but has been postponed to this year due to Covid restrictions. It features exhibits from clubs across the country and is considered a major opportunity for young gymnasts to showcase their skills and development.
Showcasing one of the greatest eras in music, this year’s routine was performed to a medley of ’80s rock anthems.
The North Devon Club has an all-inclusive policy and the team includes gymnasts of all ages and abilities, ranging from 6 to 21 years old. The club had quite a few long time members who dropped out after Covid, so this year the team is very young and new, and bringing in these gymnasts has been quite a challenge for the coaches.
Workouts are held once a week, which means the team only trains for two hours for display.
Coach Michelle Gordon said: “There is a great spirit within the team and taking part in festivals like this is always a highlight. I am so proud of all the gymnasts and all their hard work has paid off.
The team have had the chance to perform nationally and internationally, representing Great Britain at events at Disneyland Paris, Festival Del Sole in Italy and the Blume Gymnastics Festival in Gran Canaria.
Following their success in London, the team hopes to fly the Great Britain flag again at the Del Sole Festival in Italy in 2023.
