Pundit urges West Ham to outclass London rivals as England international

West Ham United are set to make a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer according to former England international Darren Bent.

Chances are Calvert-Lewin will be on the move, even if Everton stay on their feet. Speculation is rife that the Toffees will cash in on a star player and the England international could leave. If so, there will be a transfer rush and Bent wants West Ham to rush.

It would mean moving Arsenal to his signature, but Bent believes it would be a wise move. It’s well known that Hammers boss David Moyes wants a new striker this summer. There’s a chance he wants two after a disappointing January window.

Strikers requested

The Gunners are also on the hunt for a new No.9 after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. Not only Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could also be on the move. Both are out of contract this summer and the Gunners are watching the market.

West Ham Lacazette is also thought to be an option, but Calvert-Lewin is a target. An approach was made in January, but Everton slapped a £60million price tag on him and West Ham backed down.

speaking on Talksport Bent also rejected such an assessment. “If Everton are asking for £60m, nobody is going to buy him for that,” he said.

When asked what a fair valuation is, Bent felt more in the region of £35-40million.

Calvert-Lewin has shown class in previous seasons, but this campaign has been tough. The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries which limited him to just 10 games. He’s only scored three goals and it’s no coincidence that Everton are struggling.

West Ham need a striker

It also means Everton cannot overprice. But if he can be snapped up at a good price, Bent believes he would be a great signing for West Ham.

“I think for Calvert-Lewin, West Ham. They need another centre-forward, they cross the ball,” he told Talksport.

West Ham would face stiff competition, however, as Arsenal aren’t the only club interested. Newcastle are on the hunt and looking to spend big at the end of the season.

Tottenham have also been mentioned and would be an attractive option for the player. For now, Calvert-Lewin will focus on playing and scoring goals. Everton need him in the battle to stay in the Premier League.
