TEAM NEWS: London Broncos can cause problems for York City Knights

JAMES FORD stressed the importance of having the right details when the York City Knights take on the London Broncos on Sunday.

The two teams head into the game after contrasting results in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup last weekend, with York beating Newcastle Thunder while London lost 34-8 at home to Bradford Bulls.

It was London’s fifth defeat of the season, having also fallen in the Betfred Championship to Widnes, Halifax, Whitehaven and Featherstone.

But it won’t be easy on Sunday (3 p.m.) at Cherry Red Records Stadium, the head coach insisted, and York will have to make their decision directly on the pitch.

“I’ve watched a few games and in every one of them it’s a halftime contest,” Ford said.

“We expect a tough competition. They have very strong physical players who if we get our tackle selection or details wrong will cause problems.

“It sounds silly, but we have to play well, get them to do multiple tackles, keep the ball in play and try to tax our energy.”

The Knights have brought in 18-year-old center Levi Edwards on loan from the Leeds Rhinos until the end of the season.

He went straight to the side, while Will Oakes and Joe Brown returned after resting for Newcastle.

Ford said: “The guys who came out of the side, Will Oakes and Browny, for example, they weren’t let down, they were rested to give some young boys an opportunity.

“I believe in giving young boys an opportunity to develop them so that when we need them they are further ahead of where they would be if we didn’t.

“But Will Oakes and Joe Brown are 22, 23 year old wingers and they played very well. They will come back to the team, not because AJ and Brad haven’t played well but because, in my De my opinion, Oakesy and Browny are a bit ahead of what they are right now.”

Ford believes James Clare, on loan, has returned to Castleford, but “communication hasn’t been great” from the West Yorkshire side, he said.
