London is a great city with everything you could want, but it gets really stressful.
Luckily, the capital is surrounded by tons of towns and villages that make for great day trips, and even long weekends away.
Farnham in Surrey is one such place. And being only an hour from Wimbledon station, it’s certainly easy to get there.

For one thing, Farnham is home to the best public school in the country.
Yes, according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Schools Guide Weydon School is number one, with 45.1% of pupils achieving A* or A at GCSE level.
This is great news!
But better than that, some of Farnham’s neighboring woods have also proven to be of great cultural significance.
About a 10-minute drive from town is Bourne Woods, where the chase scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was filmed.
Throughout the film, Harry, Ron and Hermione are seen camping in Farnham Woods, only to be stopped by “robbers”.
Bourne Woods was also used in another Harry Potter scene, this time from The Half Blood Prince, as a few woodsy scenes from the movie were shot there.

In fact, there is a funny rumor about the filming of The Half Blood Prince.
The “Harry Potter On Location” guide claims that during filming, two streakers interrupted filming, and Daniel Radcliffe and Helena Bonham Carter had to be taken away.
Education and magic aside, at some point while you’re there you’ll want to have a few drinks – and Farnham has no shortage of tasty drinkers.
If so, The Bat & Ball Freehouse, located at 15 Bat and Ball Lane, is just the thing for you.
Not only is it a family business, but the food is said to be delicious.
In fact, it’s so good that someone took to Google to leave the writing: “Fun starters – the pretzel with rarebit dip was a good bite of beer.” Seasonal bubble and squeak balls came with more jalapeños than you might think! The Cobb salad had good chicken, bacon and avocado but a bit short on the salad leaves!”
Birdworld is also one of the main attractions in the city.
It is one of the largest bird parks in the country – spanning over 26 acres.
It is also home to over 1000 birds and 180 species from around the world. There are also plenty of interactive exhibits such as Penguin Beach, Outback Landing, and Seashore Walk.
