Today’s Best MLB Prop Bets

Brubaker’s Half Dozen

Be careful! Meet the Cincinnati Reds! Good kind of.

After losing 22 of their first 25 games (still can’t believe it), the Reds have now won four of their last six as they begin a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Thursday. evening.

Two of those wins came against that same Pirates team last week, including a 9-2 victory where the Reds scored seven points in the bottom of the eighth to end a nine-game losing streak. But before that comeback, the Reds were dominated by Pirates starter JT Brubaker.

The 28-year-old right-hander has been surprisingly solid for the Buccos this season. Despite a 5.68 ERA, his expected ERA is a much more respectable 3.28 and he limits his opponents to an expected .218 batting average.

Brubaker also does a decent job racking up strikeouts, hitting 30 batters in 25 1-3 innings. And in that game against the Reds, he struck out nine in just five innings of work. He will have a chance to continue tonight.

While Cincinnati has been looking more like a professional baseball team lately, their 9.39 strikeouts per game rank last in MLB while also ranking 27th in strikeout rate against right-handed throwing.

Brubaker has exceeded that number only twice in his first six starts, but he should be able to work at least five innings against a Reds side that still hit just .218 when facing right-handers. The extra money is the icing on the cake.

To take: JT Brubaker Over 5.5 strikeouts (+126)

Slice of Timbo

The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees begin an intriguing set at Guaranteed Rate Field tonight. The 22-8 Yankees are off to their best start in nearly 20 years, while the White Sox offense let them down in a 15-14 start to the year that can only be called a disappointment.

But having won seven of their last eight games, the Pale Hose hope they have turned a corner. And while the offense that ranks 27th in points and 25th in OPS has let them down this season, you can’t blame it on Tim Anderson.

The guy keeps doing what he does best: hitting the ball. Anderson hits .347 with a .912 OPS and is in one of his patented grooves.

Anderson had hits in 10 of his last 12 games and multi-hit games in seven of them. He’s hitting .408 with a 1.045 OPS during that streak and he’ll be looking to stay warm when he digs in against Yankees starter Luis Gil.

Gil is one of the Yankees’ top pitching prospects, starting tonight. He was called up last August and has had six mostly solid starts. He’s a batting artist who hit 38 batters in 29 1-3 innings last season, but he’s really struggled in AAA in 2022.

While the strikeouts are still there (25 in 17 IP), he was hit hard, allowing 18 hits — including five dingers — for 18 runs in just 17 innings.

On top of that, Anderson hits infrequently, getting hit 11 times this season and only twice in that 12-game streak.

Expect Anderson to take advantage of this game with an inexperienced starter and go over 1.5 goals overall, something he’s done nine times in the last 12 games.

To take: Tim Anderson Over 1.5 goals in total (+105)

Well said Freddie

Freddie Freeman has been his regular old self with his new team, casually hitting .315 with a .911 OPS in his first 29 games in Dodger Blue. And on Thursday night, he’ll face a familiar foe when he and the Dodgers host the Philadelphia Phillies.

Zack Wheeler wins the ball for the Phillies and Freeman has been a thorn in his side in his many years playing in the National League East. Heck, a thorn in Wheeler’s side can play it down because Freeman absolutely owned him.

Whatever you want to call it, Freeman just reads the ball well out of Wheeler’s hand. He has 21 hits on 48 at bats while drawing 15 walks against just 11 strikeouts against Wheeler during his career. That’s a .438 batting average to go along with a 1.208 OPS. And this is not a small sample.

Wheeler has been solid this season, posting an expected 3.14 ERA while giving up a lackluster .240 batting average to opponents. And with Freeman hitting .324 with an .885 OPS against right-handed throwing this season, he looks like a solid bet at that value to top his bases total tonight.

To take: Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 goals in total (+135)
