Life is a beach

Miami Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara has been baseball’s top pitcher since mid-May. Full stop. The right-hander will be a great bet to continue that run of dominance when he takes the ball tonight against the Los Angeles Angels.

Alcantara, who will likely be the National League starter in the next All-Star Game, has been nearly untouchable in his last 10 starts. The 26-year-old throws to a 1.47 ERA and limits his opponents to a .147 batting average over that span.

But perhaps the most impressive part was its durability. Alcantara pitched at least seven innings in those 10 starts, averaging just under eight pitchers per start, including three full games, which you don’t see anymore. The most complete games by a pitcher last season were just three.

Tonight will be a tough game for the struggling Angels roster. In fact, the Halos were arguably the worst roster in baseball in over a month. Los Angeles ranks last in MLB in batting average and strikeout rate, and 29th in OPS and wRC+ since June 1.

The Angels will need a prayer tonight against Alcantara – bet on him to dive deep in another game and get the better of his saved prop.

blue shredder

The Toronto Blue Jays are clearly in trouble heading into All-Star Break, but the offense keeps rolling, and whether it’s a guy like Alejandro Kirk, Teoscar Hernandez, or Lourdes Gurriel Jr., they continually present us with a betting value when it comes to total basics props.

Today we focus on Gurriel as the Blue Jays continue their streak with the Oakland A’s.

Gurriel is known to be a streaky hitter and he’s in the middle of one of his hot spells. The Jays outfielder has had at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 games, hitting .392 with a 1.074 OPS, including eight extra hits during that streak.

Another thing to like about the way Gurriel swings him is that he does a great job of recognizing strikes, having only been hit eight times in the last 14 games.

Tuesday night he will dig in hopes of A Adrian Martinez. The 25-year-old right-hander is only making his third career start. His first was impressive, allowing just four of 5 1-3 hits against the Detroit Tigers, but followed that up by being tagged for seven runs on 7 of 4 2-3 against the Seattle Mariners.

It also means the A’s will likely be happy to get five innings from Martinez. Then they’ll hand the ball to a bullpen that ranks 24th in ERA and 28th in WHIP.

With Gurriel topping his prop base total eight times in this 14-game streak, backing him up to more money to keep swinging a hot stick is a good bet.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr.. Prop: Over 1.5 bases total (+115)

Turn

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner had another great month at the plate and carried it over to July. Turner will be looking to stay hot tonight against Colorado Rockies starter German Marquez.

Turner is coming off a June where he hit .315 with an .873 OPS over 26 games, and kicked off July with a bang. Turner started the month with a four-game hitting streak where he is 7-16 (.438) with two doubles. Now he has to face a struggling Marquez.

The Colorado right-hander hasn’t been able to regain his All-Star form from a year ago. Marquez throws to an expected 4.89 ERA and gives opponents an expected .283 batting average. He also just started against that same Dodgers team where he went just 3 innings 1-3, giving up five runs on five hits.

Turner went 1-3 with a brace against Marquez in that game and is now 4-10 with two doubles while striking just once in his career against Marquez.

With Turner topping 1.5 total goals three times over his four-game hitting streak, getting him to earn more money to do it again in this game seems like solid value.

Trea Turner Prop: Over 1.5 bases total (+110)
