London party

Travel: London is calling – The Irish News

JANUARY is always a quiet month for hotels and hospitality. Recovering from the festive celebrations, most companies are preparing for the New Year. This Christmas, however, was different.

As Omicron traveled across the country, parties were canceled, bookings stopped, and everyone stayed home. The effect was felt most acutely in London, which suffered the double blow of a collapse in tourism.

But in times of crisis, people stick together – a sense of solidarity demonstrated at Mondrian Shoreditch at one of the city’s most exciting new neighborhood hotels. Here are some reasons why you should visit on your next trip to London…

The rooms are a success suite – Award-winning London interior design studio Goddard Littlefair was responsible for the complete overhaul of the hotel last year. Brick-walled rooms reflect the raw, gritty charm of Shoreditch, enhanced by leather sofas, freestanding tubs, and showers with steam functions. Some suites have outdoor terraces, while others have been designed as mini-apartments.

aim high – Guests have access to the rooftop bar, Altitude at The Curtain. In addition to a bright bistro with natural light, you will find a heated outdoor swimming pool, sun loungers and a beach towel rack. Dawn swims above a horizon of concrete towers and steaming vents sums up city life at its finest. A fully equipped gym and spa can be found on the lower level for more conventional exercise and low-key relaxation.

Tapas on tap – Spanish chef prodigy Dani Garcia has opened his first UK restaurant here. Fish mobiles hanging from BiBo’s ceiling allude to the menu offered in this Spanish tapas kitchen. Choose from a selection of variations on the traditional paella, including lobster, octopus, rib eye and roast chicken. Among the small bites, the creamy porcini croquettes and grilled avocado with pesto and feta are highly recommended.

Cocktail bar Christina’s champions local living – A long copper bar decorated with playful pastel furniture and botanical motifs, this street-level hangout is designed to be one of London’s best cocktail parties. In keeping with today’s times, the focus is on sustainability and zero waste. The house cocktails are served on tap using kegerators (a large-scale chilled beverage dispenser), and all products used are sourced from independent local suppliers, start-ups and social impact brands.

Double rooms at the Mondrian Shoreditch London start from £299 with breakfast. More information on
