(1115 GMT) — Virgin Voyages’ second ship, Valiant Lady, steamed up the Thames to Tilbury today ahead of its nightly showcase for invited press, agents and VIP ‘sailors’.
The 2,700-passenger Valiant Lady, a sister to Scarlet Lady, will host a late-night party featuring Ella Henderson, Tom Grennan, Capital FM DJ Mista Jam and international DJ Diplo.
The adults-only ship then tours the UK, including an overnight stay in Liverpool on Monday, before heading to Portsmouth for its ‘MerMaiden’ cruise next Friday in Zeebrugge.
Speaking at the launch of Valiant Lady, Tom McAlpin, CEO of Virgin Voyages, said: “It was amazing to launch Virgin Voyages last year, so welcoming our second ship, Valiant Lady, here in the UK less One year later is a very special moment for the entire Virgin Voyages family. After two difficult years people are excited to explore the world again and it means a lot to us that we can help make it easier.
Valiant Lady arrived in Portsmouth earlier this month and organized a series of short cruises for family and friends from Virgin Voyages to France and back.
Valiant Lady is pretty much a carbon copy of Scarlet Lady, who made a series of cruises to nowhere from Portsmouth all last summer, before heading to the United States, where he’s been based ever since.
Valiant Lady features, among other firsts, a tattoo parlour, a theater that turns into a dance floor, a boxing ring, a giant hot tub on the pool deck, drag queen brunches and sex talks and Rock Star suites with a guitar room.
The ship is already receiving rave reviews from Cruise Critic members, despite not operating any paid cruises.
The ship will be based in Portsmouth until May 15, offering three-night “long weekends” in Bruges as well as 11- and 12-night cruises to Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
Valiant Lady will then head to Barcelona where it will embark on a series of Western Mediterranean cruises.
