Intercounty baseball’s top team wrapped up a three-game sweep with a 23-4 hammering against the basement-dwelling Brantford Red Sox on Sunday night at Labatt Park.

The defending champions will face the lowest seed of the four remaining teams in the second round and there is already an upset in the works. The seventh-placed Hamilton Cardinals hold a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series with the second-placed Guelph Royals after a 7-4 home win on Sunday. Game 3 is Tuesday in Guelph.

Welland, third, and Toronto, fourth, have already advanced by quickly eliminating the Kitchener Panthers and Barrie Baycats respectively in three games apiece.

In London, Starling Joseph homered twice and had seven RBIs in Sunday’s series finale. Byron Reichstein also homered, drove twice and scored five times. Daniel Perrier went 5 for 6 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs while Kieran Bowles hit in five on three hits.

Fernando Fernandez was credited with the relief victory with 4 ⅔ two-hit innings with three strikeouts. Starter Bo Lewington gave up four runs in 2 ⅓ innings with six strikeouts.
